\subsection*{Introduction to GridBlocks DISK}
%---------------------------------------------------------------
GridBlocks project has made it easy for users to store, share and
access their personal files from anywhere. Users can access the DISK
service through web browser without any special client
software which makes it possible to use the storage from devices
varying from desktop computers to mobile phones. DISK is designed
to be easily installed for personal use at home or in the
office. DISK installation enables user to make his personal files
securely available from remote locations and be shared amongst his
friends.

%\section{Using Personal Data Storage}
%---------------------------------------------------------------
\subsection*{Using DISK as a {\it web folder} in Windows}
Microsoft Windows XP has a buind-in support for {\it web folders}. Web
folders make a remote folder to appear as any other
folder in your computer, including renaming, deleting and dragging and
dropping files between the remote folder and other folders on your
computer. To start using DISK in computers running MS Windows:
\vspace*{-0.8em}
\begin{itemize}\setlength{\itemsep}{-1ex}
\item First open a new Internet Explorer window.
\item Then, click {\bf Open} from the {\bf File} menu, which brings up
an {\tt open address} dialog.
\item Now, type the address of the DISK service. e.g.
\url{http://opengrid.cern.ch:8888/gb-disk}.
\item Remember to check the box {\bf Open as Web Folder}.
\item Then press the {\bf OK} button to connect to the server.
\item Now you should see a list of available files and folders and you
can start using disk.
\item To log in to the service visit {\tt private} folder and give
your username and password when asked.
\end{itemize}
\vspace*{-0.8em}
\footnotesize
{\bf An alternative way:} WebDAV
folders can also be made available through {\bf My Network
Places}. Select {\bf Add a network place} from left-hand side of the
window. Continue using {\bf Add Network Place Wizard} and pick up {\bf
Choose another network location} from the list of service
provides. Then input the address of the DISK service
e.g. \url{http://opengrid.cern.ch:8888/gb-disk}. Finally, before
completing the wizard give a convenient name to the service. A new
item should be listed on {\bf My Network Places}.

\subsection*{Using DISK through Web Browser}
If you prefer to use a simple and easy to use interface through your
favourite web browser, just write the address of the service to the
location bar of the browser. For example, \url{http://opengrid.cern.ch:8888/gb-disk}.
Then you can start uploading and downloading files.
\vspace*{-0.8em}
\begin{itemize}\setlength{\itemsep}{-1ex}
\item {\bf Downloading Files}, you can download any file listed in the
front-page by simply clicking the name of the file.
\item {\bf Logging In} needs to be done in order to upload files and to view
files in private area, for this, click {\tt Log-In} at upper right
corner of the web page.
\item {\bf Uploading Files}, in the middle of the page is a field
for uploading a file. By using the {\bf Browse} button you can browse
through your filesystem and select the file to be uploaded. After
selecting the file press {\bf Upload} to send the selected file to the
service.
\end{itemize}
\vspace*{-0.8em}
\footnotesize
\noindent
{\bf Extra: The command-line} WebDAV client can be used to send and
receive files from command prompt or script languages. This is
recommended for advance use such as for automating back-ups, for
instructions see \url{http://gridblocks.hip.fi/disk.html}.

\subsection*{Installing DISK for Personal Use}
We have packaged the entire personal DISK service to a single {\tt
.jar} package to make it easy to install. To install DISK you only
need to have Java in your computer. Then it is enough to copy {\bf
personal.jar} from our download page to directory on your computer
where you want to run the service. Then in command line you should
type:
\label{installation}
\vspace*{0.3cm}
\begin{tabular}{|l|}
\hline
{\tt java -jar gb-disk-personal-1.0.jar} \\
\hline
\end{tabular}
\vspace*{0.3cm}
\\
\noindent
A very simple installation wizard guides you through the
installation process.
\vspace*{-0.3cm}
\subsection*{Storage Security}
Files under the directory {\tt private\/} are secured by user name and
password, which were set during the installation phase or given by
your friend or the system administrator. Users without password cannot access
this material making it possible to share personal material. For
security reasons, any write operation to storage also require the
password. This includes uploading and deleting the files.
